The Spark: The Weekly Wave #05
Welcome to The Weekly Wave, a weekly newsletter highlighting the amazing local coffee shops in Indianapolis. This week, we're introducing you to The Spark in Speedway!
What we love about The Spark in Speedway
It is honestly kind of shocking to me that specialty coffee didn’t find its way to Speedway until 2021 when The Spark Coffee opened on Main Street. Since then, The Spark has been a warm and welcoming hub for the community that just happens to serve great local coffee.
At The Spark, “Coffee. Community.” is more than just their tagline—it’s their approach to life. As the owners were dreaming up the space, they wanted it to serve a bigger purpose than just another caffeine hub. The Spark regularly hosts many community events and plenty of local artists. Speaking of their events, they host a handful of coffee-related classes, but they also do fun events like Taylor Swift listening parties and board game nights.
They have a bunch of upcoming events, and as May approaches, there’s going to be so much going on in Speedway! Some of the events we’re looking forward to are: more board game nights (Sat, April 22), IMS: Cars & Coffee (April 8), Barista Basics (April 15), and a ton of local musical guests. Make sure to follow them on Instagram to stay updated on all of their events: @thesparkcoffee.
I really like going to The Spark because (even though I don’t care about racing) there’s just something about being in Speedway and surrounded by all things IMS. Speedway is one of those towns that doesn’t get enough credit, but it is actually really great. There are so many local spots on Main Street, and the city does such a great job at keeping its history alive and relevant while also ushering in a new way of community. Of course, The Spark and places like it are leading the way for that, and it’s just awesome to see. I remember hearing from The Spark before they opened. We actually spent a lot of time on Zoom together talking about the local coffee community because they wanted to be sure to uplift the community as much as possible.
